3. Seven Dice: 1 yellow six-sided die, 1 red six-sided die, 1 blue six-sided die, 1 green six-sided die, 1 white six-sided die, 1 pink six-sided die, and 1 brown six-sided die.
4. Baseball Player Cards: You can’t play if you don’t have players! We have included 18 players in the box which is just enough for 2 full teams (because some of our pitchers also can be used in other positions!
5. Field Cards: You don’t actually need this if you know what a baseball field looks like - but we gave you some nice full-color cards for first, second, third base, home plate and the pitchers mound.
6. SMART Cards: We have included 13 SMART cards in the Baseball Card Battle game. One of the things that makes our game so fun is our “super powered” SMART Cards. These cards give you special powers as you play the game. Each one is based on a real historical baseball event, or on baseball movies, or baseball memorabilia. Each player can use up to 3 SMART cards of their choosing each time they play a game of Baseball Card Battle. You can collect more SMART cards by purchasing booster packs! Just go to www.bcb.fun to find more packs!
7. Batting Order & Score Keeping Card: We have included two oversized Batting Order Cards (one for the Visiting team and one for the Home team) to be used over and over again with a fine tip dry erase marker to keep track of your batting order and to substitute in new players during the game. This card also allows you to keep track of hits, outs and runs scored throughout the game. Each Batting Order Card has a Player Evaluation Quick Reference Card on the other side!
8. Major Leage Game Mode Dice Roll Guide: This handy 2-sided guide shows you what each roll of the dice means in our most popular game mode: Major League Mode! Wondering who wins if the batter and pitcher both roll a “3”? ... This is the guide for you!
Player Evaluation Stickers: We have included 36 player evaluation stickers, and 18 pitcher evaluation stickers so you can determine how powerful your OWN baseball player cards are! Yep! You can use ANY of your baseball cards to play Baseball Card Battle. Simply put a sticker on a baseball card sleeve and slide it over your baseball card so you don’t damage the original card (see below under “Recommended Supplies”). Then use our guide to evaluate the power of your player and write it down on the sticker (see the other booklet in the game box entitled “How to Evaluate Players”).
RECOMMENDED SUPPLIES (that are not in the box):
Baseball Card Sleeves: We recommend getting nice, oversized baseball card sleeves to put your players in. That way you can place our “Player Evaluation Stickers” on them without any worry for damaging your cards. You can go cheap: http://bit.ly/Baseball-Card-Sleeves ... or you can go premium: http://bit.ly/premium-baseball-card-sleeves --- We recommend premium thickness card sleeves for playing over time!
Card Stands: It’s also super fun to put your players on stands so that … they stand on the field in their positions! We recommend these ones: https://amzn.to/3PKibXA
How to Play
Baseball Card Battle is designed to play like an actual game of baseball. Here are some basic rules of baseball if you are unfamiliar with baseball:
1. HOW TO WIN: The person to score the most runs in 9 innings wins in a major league game of baseball. We only recommend that you play for 3 innings with our game for the sake of time. If the score is tied at the end of 9 (or 3) innings - simply play more innings until one team wins - this is called “extra innings.” Remember! The home team ALWAYS gets to bat last.
2. HOME TEAM vs. AWAY TEAM: In a baseball game the home team gets to bat last in each inning - which gives them the opportunity to have the last chance to bat (and win) in the game. To choose who will be the home team we recommend that it be the winner of a ceremonial coin toss - or even better - a traditional “hands on the bat contest” at the beginning of the game.
3. PICKING YOUR BASEBALL PLAYERS: Players begin by selecting 8 cards for their catcher, infield, and outfield positions and 3 pitchers from ANY of their existing baseball cards. Both players must agree in order to use a player in a position NOT recorded on their baseball card (i.e. using a First Baseman as a Catcher) - for the realism of the game it is NOT recommended to use players outside of their actual position.
4. SETTING UP YOUR BATTING ORDER: In baseball players bat in a set order and they stay in that order throughout the game. Use the included batting order card and fine tip dry erase marker to write down what order your players will bat in. Try to place your better batters in the order of 1-3 and then place good slugging hitters in 4 and 5. If you lose a player for any reason, or want to replace them with a better player simply erase the name of the player and put in the name of the new player in the empty batting order slot. (See picture). If your pitcher is not a good batter, you can decide whether or not to use a Designated Hitter (DH) for your pitchers. In game modes where statistics matter more (Major League Game Mode) it would be wise to use a DH so the statistics affect the game properly. A Designated Hitter only hits - they do not play defense.
5. KEEPING TRACK OF HITS, WALKS, OUTS AND RUNS: The batting order card is also a score keeping card! Use that same fine tip dry erase marker to keep track of hits, walks, outs, and runs! The card is coated so it can be used over and over again.
6. SETTING UP THE FIELD: Place the included field cards out, and then place the home team players in their positions out on the field. See the picture below for an example of how to place your players in the correct order. You can choose to use player that plays multiple positions in any of those positions indicated on their baseball card (for example OF meaning any position in the outfield, or 1B for first base.) The home team goes out on the field first because they bat AFTER the away team has a chance to bat.
7. DECIDE HOW LONG YOU WANT YOUR GAME TO LAST: A three inning game may take as long as 30-45 minutes - depending on how quickly you play. So choose how many innings to play based on how much time you have to play! You can even play for just one inning if you want to! If you are tied at the end of your agreed upon innings you can keep playing until someone wins - or you can call it a tie.
