This is a Tarot deck that follows the traditional 8 seasonal festivals of the year which are symbolised as a wheel. The traditional 16 “court cards” become Animal Helpers, drawing us on a journey through the seasonal energies, with each suit representing a quarter of the year. Each of the 22 Major cards are related to a part of the Wheel and so take us on a journey through the seasons, starting with the traditional season of Imbolc in early February and progressing around the Wheel as we journey through the year to Midwinter Solstice. From there the cards move into the centre, or hub of the wheel. The 40 “pip” cards, numbered as usual from Ace to 10, also progress around the Wheel and into the centre.
We find that the traditional Rider Waite-Smith meanings can be deepened and extended for the time we live in now by bringing through more ancient meanings via animal and seasonal symbolism. These symbols relate through our own deep subconscious knowledge acquired by our ancestors over time. So this deck can be used by both experienced Tarotists and beginners. To help beginners, who are learning to connect intuitively, keywords and seasons are printed on the cards. A leaflet is included in the box giving brief Interpretations for each card. Deeper and more extensive meanings and interpretations can be found on our web site.
