Sanity Test for Cosmos: The Galaxy Building Card Game

72/100
Final Score
A striking and clever engine-building game that is very close to being exceptional.

Rules 62/80

Structure 7/9

The only things I see missing are a play overview, component listen and component pictures.

Requirements 0/3

These are shown in the shop, but not in the rulebook.

Introduction 3/3

The intro is concise and evocative - has a bit of a Greg Bear feel to it.

Overview 1/3

The victory condition is hinted at in the first paragraph of setup. A simple statement such as "The object of the game is to build the most influence by creating star systems and other celestial structures. Each game has a unique endpoint; when that is achieved, the player with the most influence wins."

Component List 0/5

There is, unfortunately, no component list in the rulebook.

Component Pictures 2/3

There are excellent pictures of icon, and the anatomy of a card; however, there are no pictures of the other components.

Setup 10/10

Clear and concise. The Terminology stone is in the exact right place and is very helpful.

Setup Pictures 5/7

The setup pictures (including the example of a play area at the bottom of page 5) are clear and helpful, though I am not sure why a planet card is alongside its star instead of below it.

Game Play 15/15

--Can you use the discard ability of a card you've already played?
--Having face-up discards and face-down discards in the same pile can be messy. Have you considered showing opponents a "discard ability" then discarding it face down?
--Strongly recommend that your setup picture include a doted rectangle showing that the discard pile is placed horizontally next to the draw pile. I can see lots of mistakes drawing from the discard pile unless it is differentiated from the other 6 choices.
--"Reactions that are Discard Abilities you use on another player's turns do not count TOWARD THIS LIMIT." As written, some may misconstrue this sentence as meaning the cards have no effect.
--Your "additional notes" section is very helpful.

Game Play Pictures 5/7

These rules are good enough that examples are not strictly needed. However, one game play example, including discard abilities and reactions, would make these rules even more exceptional.

End Point 6/6

Car and concise, including a tiebreaker.

Overall Comprehension 3/4

The only confusion for me is where planets fit on the table in relation to their star system. Could I place them overlapping on their star as long as In Play Abilities aren't covered?

Clarity 3/3

Clean, tight grammar with no spelling errors.

Presentation 2/2

The only graphic I would change is your setup picture, highlighting the discard pile as mentioned above.

Shop Presentation 10/20

Ad 3/3

Essentially a copy of the introduction, but still quite evocative and clear.

Backdrop 1/1

Nice art and a great logo

Logo 1/1

It is appealing - but redundant. Take the title of the game and make it a PNG file with transparency, and use it as the logo - or use your game company as your logo - or put another tag line in the logo. There is no need for the logo to duplicate the backdrop.

Action Shots 0/5

There are no action shots in the shop at this time. Consider adding some well-lit photos of: one or two of each type of cards player's play area mid-game; the tabletop mid-game; and some friends having a great time playing.

Description 5/5

Essentially a copy of the introduction, but still quite evocative and clear.

Video 0/5

There is novice in the store at this time.
