Sanity Test for GUNSLINGER: Legends of the Dusty Trail

72/100
Final Score
Fairly well-written rules that would be improved with pictures and some minor reorganization.

Rules 56/80

Structure 7/9

If you include a strategy section, put it at the end. People reading for the first time just want the basics of how to play as quickly and easily as possible. It could be made clearer that this is rules for three different games (and they could be distinguished more clearly.)

Requirements 3/3

Note that you might run into trouble listing ages under 12, as it may necessitate testing of all components.

Introduction 3/3

Good background.

Overview 1/3

"The objective is to win" goes without saying. This section should briefly outline game play. It is not for delving into strategy or the details of the end game.

Component List 4/5

Fine.

Component Pictures 0/3

Either here or in setup pictures should show a gunslinger with its clutch card symbols and mercenary and boss cards and how they are distinguished.

Setup 8/10

Setup should only describe what goes where at the start of the game. Leave out allusions to rules. "When any clutch cards are played during the game, the* are shuffled" through the end of that paragraph could be eliminated.

Setup Pictures 5/7

Not needed if component pictures are added.

Game Play 10/15

Another, possibly easier, way to look at the player options is by what type of space they're on. On a town either recruit or move. On a hideout either move or discard/draw. Anywhere else, you must move if possible or discard/draw if not. After moving: onto a posse or occupied hideout, gunfight. Onto one of the three properties, robbery... The ordering of the posse is alluded to but never explicitly described in depth. Does this only take place after you recruit?.. The movement of two spaces (through the passage to the next space) was not clear from the rules, but I saw it in the video... Without a picture the sliding the gunslinger to Reloading is hard to imagine. The Draw example in gunfight could have fewer participants and be shorter. Who decides first whether to retreat? Could both people retreat, leaving the space empty?... Playing clutch cards should be addressed in the gunfight section and be explained in detail (when does it happen?).

Game Play Pictures 5/7

Not strictly needed, but some things would be clearer with a picture.

End Point 2/6

This should come after game play. Right now, this information is covered in the overview instead. What happens in the case of a tie?

Overall Comprehension 3/4

It took a bit of piecing together, but yes.

Clarity 3/3

Be consistent on capitalization of terms (like gunfight vs. Gunfight.) There are places where a space is missing between words, or at least it appears that way.

Presentation 2/2

It would be preferable to have the full rules as a PDF rather than individual image downloads. In several places the pagination splits up sections in ways that make the rules harder to read.

Shop Presentation 16/20

Ad 2/3

The ad would pop more if the title stood out more from the background.

Backdrop 1/1

It takes a long time to load. Perhaps you could use a more highly compressed image file.

Logo 0/1

The logo should have the name of the game.

Action Shots 4/5

I'd like to see more images of the game in action in addition to a few cards and the board.

Description 4/5

You have a good thematic Intro and overview. You never mention how the game is physically played. Are there dice? Error: "It is exactly this setting in which you find yourself in." Choose either "you find yourself in" or "in which you find yourself," not both.

Video 5/5

Inclusion of eight videos is above the call of duty! The audio on the non-trailer videos is a little quiet.
