Sanity Test for Ophelia: Histories Collide

91/100
Final Score
An elegantly complex Living Card Game in a small box, with dramatic art and clever mechanics.
Completed December 27, 2020 by Ken Franklin

Rules 73/80

Structure 9/9

The previously scattered sections have been collected.

Requirements 3/3

Requirements are listed clearly on page 1. The choice of age 13+ is interesting; most games choose an even number for the age. (I see no need to change your choice.)

Introduction 2/3

The theme, including a condensed description of the factions, is much more powerful as a starting point. There is ample room in this theme to include expansion factions.

Overview 2/3

The overview, including an illustration, is well-summarized on page 4, labelled "Introduction".

Component List 5/5

The summary, followed immediately by a detailed description of the cards, is very well done. Turning point cards are much more clearly explained.

Component Pictures 3/3

The artwork is exceptional, and well-labelled.

Setup 10/10

The flow diagram of a turn has been corrected.

Setup Pictures 5/7

The only setup picture is a reminder of the game mat. However, this is all that is necessary. Showing piles of the sorted tokens next to the mat, and showing the round marker and point tokens on the mat, would be an improvement.

Game Play 15/15

--Game play phases are concisely and completely explained.
--One glaring omission: what happens during the setup phase if a player runs out of cards to draw?
--There is still no mention of advancing the round marker during the round resolution phase.
--The faction rules are significantly clearer.

Game Play Pictures 5/7

The picture on page 14 is very helpful (though, once again, the round and point markers are missing).

End Point 6/6

The endpoint is succinctly explained at the bottom of page 15.

Overall Comprehension 3/4

Without the ability to read all of the cards, I cannot claim mastery over game play; but what is presented is certainly enough to play.

Clarity 3/3

These rules are significantly clearer, and are easy to follow.

Presentation 2/2

The margins are excellent; the pages are easily readable. Note that you have 19 pages now. If you want the faction symbols on the back of your book, you should have 20 pages. Perhaps a player guide on the back page (incorporating a larger flowchart on page 12, reminding how many cards one draws, and options during each action phase)? -- One other point: consider adding "all rights reserved" after your copyright notice.

Shop Presentation 18/20

Ad 2/3

The artwork in the backdrop is very impressive.

Backdrop 1/1

The addition of the play requirements in the bottom left is very well done. (The Gamecrafter choices don't always align with every game, as you noticed.)

Logo 1/1

The title logo is perfect.

Action Shots 5/5

The action shots are excellent, though you have one repeated (just under contents, and in the slide show).

Description 5/5

The description is extremely clear and concise. The corrections suggested from the last sanity test have been implemented very well.

Video 4/5

I think your decision to remove the TTS Kickstarter video was a good one. The trailer video has some mild focus problems, but is otherwise just enough.
