Sanity Test for Parkies

77/100
Final Score
Minor questions about bidding, tile & Parkie placement in the rules, mostly clarified by the video.

Rules 62/80

Structure 7/9

Rather than an 'Additional Rules' section, which implies these are of secondary importance, Placing Tiles and Parkie Powers should each have their own yellow title, so we can easily find them when referred from the basic turn section.

Requirements 3/3

Video says 3-6.

Introduction 2/3

Thin in the rulebook, better on the shop page. Might confuse some people - 'parkies' are the folks who work at a theme park, not the attendees.

Overview 1/3

Thin. How do I do any of this? How do I win? Again, the shop page explanation should be reworked into the rule book.

Component List 5/5

Component Pictures 3/3

Setup 10/10

Crystal clear. Stylistically, several "should" phrases would read better in the active voice, so "The three cubes should be placed in the three “5” positions in the allure, profitability, and satisfaction tracks on their player mat" would be better as 'Place the three cubes in the three "5" positions...on each player's mat.'

Game Play 10/15

The text below Starting the Game is unnecessary. Since each turn is basically the same, it would be better to call this 'Game Play' or 'Turn sequence'. Then under 'Moving Parkies', the basic action can be explained, with a note that on the first turn you won't have anywhere to move them, so place them at an entrance. In bidding, can I switch my bid to a different attraction, or must I stay on the first one I pick? May I pre-emptively bid the maximum? May I abandon a bid if not outbid? Since I only have one bid marker, I assume I may only bid on one attraction, but this should be explicitly stated. Should also mention here that I can only overbid by using Parkies ("see Parkie Powers section"). When I "adjust [my] Allure, Profitability, and Satisfaction values accordingly", according to what? A brief explanation of the attraction tiles (as in the video) would be good before the bidding is explained, so I have some idea what I'm bidding on; such as 'Each tile will increase your Allure, Profitability, and Satisfaction scores once installed in your park. Installation follows rules as specified in the 'Placing Attractions' section below. Each tile will also attract a Parkie of the color indicated by the flag in its upper right corner. Parkies allow you to affect the bidding on later Attractions as specified in the 'Parkie Powers' section below.' Picking Parkies section should refer players to Placing Parkies section below. It would be better to mention important basic rules ('Attractions must have connecting paths leading to a park entrance', 'Newly acquired Parkies are placed on an attraction adjacent to an entrance') in the turn sequence when the action first appears, with notes to see the appropriate section below. Also, how is it kept clear where the actual entrances are? Video shows them covered on the mat, and since later tiles can lead 'out', can we bring Parkies into any opening, or must we keep track of the original entrances? In the 2-player variant under Place Bids, would be more clear if the second & third paragraphs were switched, assuming that it's more likely that one player will win the first bid. Attractions are moved to the right, if a space is empty; what about the big one? If not bought it remains? No new one until someone buys it? This should be specified. Do Parkies used as trump also provide a discount? 'Overtrump' would be clearer than "trump a trump". Side note: serpentine money track will aggravate some.

Game Play Pictures 0/7

Rather than saying "good" and "bad", which are value judgements, the diagrams should say 'yes' and 'no' or 'legal' and 'illegal' or a similar absolute. It would help to have a red arrow pointing to the flaw in each case - it's not immediately obvious what the problems are - and a caption such as 'no connection to Entrance' and 'no connecting path here'. This proviso: "They may, however, have paths off the mat in addition to entrances" should have ...and paths that lead to nowhere" added to it, since the third diagram shows that happening. In the example section, it would be better to show the evolving player mats, rather than repeating the bid mat, which we've already seen.

End Point 6/6

Overall Comprehension 3/4

Clarity 3/3

Small typo under Tactical Parkies, missing a 't', Parkie picking in the example should be chooses, not choose ('takes' would be better, since she actually has no choice).

Presentation 2/2

Shop Presentation 15/20

Ad 2/3

Graphic is great, tagline should tell me more about gameplay - am I placing workers, rolling dice, collecting resources?

Backdrop 1/1

The flat purple of the carousel top is startling; the fade at the bottom seems unnecessary.

Logo 1/1

Action Shots 2/5

Only one action shot. Should show basic setup, close-ups of different attractions

Description 4/5

Good. Should be recycled in game rules as intro and overview, should also mention tile-laying and path construction as means to points.

Video 5/5

Placing Parkie on Restroom tile: "his Parkie finally has someplace to go!" Mentions "connecting paths" when it should say 'connecting entrances'.
