Sanity Test for Time's End

78/100
Final Score
A game I would enjoy playing, but the theme still needs work.
Completed August 12, 2018 by Ken Franklin

Rules 65/80

Structure 7/9

I do not see a clear "objective" statement early in the game.
On the last page, there is a statement that keeping a prison cube on the vortex for one round of turns wins, but the language is a bit obtuse.
There is also a statement about scoring points if the clock runs out, but again, no explicit "high score wins" statement.

Requirements 3/3

Noted on page 1.

Introduction 3/3

The statement on page 1 is quite concise and evocative.

Overview 1/3

An early paragraph explaining that the game is about managing resources, maneuvering soldiers to wound and capture other generals, then exiling them to the vortex, would be a big improvement. It would focus the player's understanding as they read the rest of the rules.

Component List 4/5

To get this to exceptional, combine the late component list with the early pictures and "get to know" sections.
Explain the red and blue power squares BEFORE the setup section.

Component Pictures 2/3

See note under Component List.

Setup 10/10

Concise and clear - though "Understanding the Board" should precede it.
There should also be an explanation of the central vortex tile before the setup.
Spirit cards not dealt are removed from the game, but artifact cards remain available for purchase. This is not clear from the "setting up your army" items 5 and 6.

Setup Pictures 7/7

Graphics are quite well done

Game Play 10/15

"Limit of 5 Soldiers may Attack per turn" - include "A" at the start of the line.
"You can only use 1 Spirit Ability per Soldier per turn." Does that mean only 1 soldier can use each ability, or each soldier can use a maximum of one spirit ability.
The shorthand for movement, attack and defense is a bit arcane, but very well explained.

Game Play Pictures 5/7

Not needed. The cards pictured at the top of the "How it Sounds" column on page 6 need to match the example. I don't see an example of how artifacts are used. The "Thor's brother Bob's Hammer" has none off the symbols described.

End Point 5/6

On the last page, there is a statement that keeping a prison cube on the vortex for one round of turns wins, but the language is a bit obtuse.
There is also a statement about scoring points if the clock runs out, but again, no explicit "high score wins" statement.

Overall Comprehension 3/4

I am still uncertain on artifacts.

Clarity 3/3

Minimal confusing language outside of the "Winning Time's End" section.

Presentation 2/2

Good use of white space. Layout was clear.

Shop Presentation 13/20

Ad 2/3

Confusing point: the only way to "bring them to justice" is to exile them in the vortex forever? Seems harsh.
There are broken image links at four places in the ad copy.

Backdrop 1/1

Logo 1/1

Action Shots 5/5

Components are good, but a shot or two of the game underway would be exceptional.

Description 4/5

The other generals are treasonous? That's what they think WE are.
To win the game you only have to exile ONE general. This contradicts the shop ad copy.

Video 0/5

I see no video or demo.
