Race against your friends to create the most clever Acronym based on random letters & categories.
In Attack of the Acronyms (A.O.T.A), players race to come up with the best Acronym which is derived
from random letters and a random category card. After the acronyms are created players blindly and
secretly vote for their favorite creation. Points are tallied and game play continues in the next round.
Game play lasts 7 Rounds with additional letters being added in later rounds. At the end, the player
with the most points wins.
What is an Acronym?
An acronym is a word formed from the initial letters of words in a set phrase or series of words, as in
“WAC” from Women's Army Corps and “OPEC” from Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
“YOLO,” “MIB,” and “CIA” are also acronyms.
But in this game you aren’t guessing what acronyms really stand for, you’re creating the words that each initial of the acronym represents.
For example, if the letters come up as “ROUS” then your created acronym could be “Rodents Of
Unusual Size” or “Robots Often Use Sensors” or even “Really Old Umbrellas Smell”.The sentences
do not have to be accurate, nor do they have to be logical or even grammatically correct (therefore,
“Rita Onions Us Segue” would also be an acceptable answer). What makes a good answer will be entirely up to you and your fellow players! Each round, everyone will come up with a sentence or phrase, write it down, and then blindly and secretly vote for whichever phrase (besides their own) is the best. What “best” means can change from round to round! Have fun and get creative!
There are several ways you can get points in AOTA.
-- You get one point for every vote your created acronym receives.
-- If you voted for the most popular acronym you get one point.
-- If your acronym was the most popular acronym you get 2 bonus points.
-- If you finished your acronym first (grabbed the timer) AND you received at least one vote then you get a speed bonus of 2 points.
