Anecdotes Tarot (Pocket Edition)

Anecdotes Tarot is a 78-card deck of original illustrations inspired by the music and lyrics of Joanna Newsom. With a cozy folk-art-inspired style, this deck combines the imagery of historical tarots (including the Marseille Tarot, the Waite-Smith tarot, the Florentine Minchiate, and others) with the imagined characters and scenes from the songs. Each card was hand-drawn with vibrant marker and colored pencil, between 2018 and 2020.

Anecdotes originally came into the world, thanks to backers on Kickstarter, as a limited-edition extra-large deck. This new print-on-demand version has been reformatted as convenient poker-size cards (3.5 by 2.5 inches).

As in the original edition, the cards are free from text. To give more space to the artwork at this small size, the cards are also borderless. I hope that this can encourage more intuitive and holistic readings. However, since many of the card images are original or atypical, I also created a short reference booklet that provides the title of each card as well as the song that inspired it.
