A clean, minimal, Art Deco-inspired playmat. Printed on soft neoprene, this mat measures 10" x 16" and is ideal for smaller gaming spaces.
-Large area for asset cards
-Threat area
-Investigator dashboard with slots for damage, sanity, resources, and clues.
-Blank space runs across the bottom of the mat for action tokens, player hand, nachos*, etc.
-Sleek, minimal design that looks like it was pulled straight from the 20's
Edition 1.5 has the threat area resized to line up with the bottom of the investigator sheet.
*Please don't put nachos directly on the mat. It's suggested you sleeve your cards if you decide to eat nachos and play.
Here at Arkham Visual Aids I think of rules as "guidelines." I took that line of thinking and applied it to my investigator mat design.
Most mats on the market feature complex graphics designed with a certain audience in mind. If you're anything like me, I don't find mats with tentacles and blood spatter very attractive. Maybe they're your cup of tea and I totally respect that.
Designing this mat, I kept a few things in mind:
I don't want to run a rogue with a guardian-centric playmat.
I don't want cheesy looking blood spatter, coffee stains, and tentacles.
I just want one elegant mat for all my investigators.
I want it to be inexpensive.
There's a large area on the left that I'm using for my investigator's assets, an intense, otherworldly looking area on the right for threats, and a clean-looking investigator dashboard just right of center. 4-colored slots surround the investigator card for all your tokens.
Most mats designate where each played card goes. The game is constantly changing and these mats with dictated card placement are constantly being rendered obsolete by new game additions and mechanics.
Take Permanent cards, Allies, and Tarot slots for instance; most mats that take these slots into account have 1 slot of each and they're labeled as such. It bothers me when I have to use an Arcane-designated slot for my 3rd bandoleer-ed weapon so I designed a mat with a large, undesignated space so I could arrange my assets any which way I please.
I'm proud of this design and I'm expecting it to serve me for quite a few cycles. There's minimal mark-up so you're getting this mat cheaper than most of the Arkham Horror: The Card Game mats out there.
Happy hunting/evading.
-Trevor
