Your Hero has just arrived, shipwrecked in a new and unknown world.
You must write their story. You must lead them on their journey.
But will it be the path to victory, or defeat?
Bard is a cooperative game for 1 - 5 players played over three acts. Each play of the game is an attempt at completing an act.
If you fail, you start over on that act, but not necessarily where you left off. The Health, Knowledge, Power and Money you earned will carry over into you next attempt. Hopefully they aide you into victory.
If you succeed, you move on the the next act for your next play of the game. Some of your Health, Knowledge, Power and Money carry over, but a few other things will change to make the next act a little harder.
If you complete Act III, congratulations! You are indeed a successful Bard! But the fun doesn’t have to stop there. Play again starting over on Act I.
The players take turns adding cards to the table. (These are big jumbo cards by the way). The Hero moves across the cards by following "nodes" on the cards.
The Hero moves to an adjacent card when played, then jumps to the corresponding node (same color) on the same card. The process may repeat several times. (If you've played Tsuro before, this will look familiar.)
Most of the cards have an action on them that may test or affect the Hero in four attributes: Health, Knowledge, Power and Money.
The players have Bonus Cards that can help the hero out when they need it most.
The Hero will lose the game if any attribute drops to zero or if they return to the start card. But at the end there's a final confrontation that will ultimately decide the outcome of they game.
Bard is designed to played over multiple games with somethings (Bonus Cards, Hero Attributes etc.) carrying over from the last game.
When you win a confrontation, you move on the the next act, and things will get a little tougher for you.
