BEAM RACER

With cutting edge graphics (for the time), and despite the countless glitches, the game achieved a cult following. Now, this fictional cult classic is available in the comfort of your own home!

Objective

In this game, 2-4 BEAM RACERs race through the arena, collecting bonuses while avoiding hazards and the BEAM trails left behind by themselves and their opponents. Try to outlast your opponents, but don’t be a coward! You need to get into the centre and take risks if you want to get enough points to guarantee victory!

BEAM RACER wouldn't be a cult classic if it didn't have the occasional quirk. In this case, every so often the machine will glitch and cause some exciting challenges.*

Just in case you thought this would be too easy, to make sure that every game is different there are HAZARDs scattered randomly placed on the board. Well, not so much 'random' as 'placed by your opponents in a way that causes the maximum number of problems for you'. Don't worry though, everyone places these HAZARDs so feel free to be as mean as you want!

Modular board design! Using a modular board, the board can easily be set up for 2, 3 or 4 players.

HOW TO PLAY

Each player takes turns rolling the Glitch die and moving. The Glitch die can have the following effect:

No Steering. Do not turn. Move ahead one junction in your current direction.

Twitch. You MUST turn left or right. Move ahead one junction in your new direction.

Full Control. You MAY turn left or right. Move ahead one junction in the direct you are now facing.

Game Lag. Everyone else's RACERs have frozen. Make two moves under the Full Control rules above.

As you move, you leave a trail behind you. Crash into anyone's trail, another racer, the edge of the board or one of the Hazard domes scattered around the board will mean you are eliminated. Don't just rely on surviving to win, though, as there are Bonus discs on the board that can score you extra points to help you score more than your opponents.

Includes HD version! While the 80s was a glorious time, what it lacked in subtlety it more than made up for in colours. This game comes with a much more understated HD version on the back of every tile, for those that prefer a more refined gaming experience. It pays homage to the 'pins and string' original prototype that started the fictional creator of BEAM RACER down his path to stardom!
