Description

BirdSpot

In BirdSpot, you are a bird photographer at a nature preserve trying to take the best pictures of the best birds. Unfortunately, you can't just go marching across protected territory, so pick a spot and break out the Camera: either let the birds fly to you or use your tools to maximize your potential.

Decide which birds to record to either raise your point total or to unlock more tools before someone completes enough objectives to end the game.

Biggest score wins!

How to Play

Setup

  1. Randomly place 4 of the 8 double-sided map tiles. They can be connected in any orientation to create a unique experience every game!
  2. Shuffle the migration card deck and draw a migration card. These cards show you how birds are placed initially and also their migration at the end of a round -- these birds can't stay still!
  3. Choose your BirdSpot.
  4. Roll and place the 9 birds using the migration card.

Round

  1. Roll and add up the Camera dice values. Each die goes from 1 to 3, so your Camera's range varies from 2 to 6. Everyone's Camera has the same base range each round.
  2. Select a tool, if possible/desired. You start the game with the Filter which extends your range by 2. The powerful Digiscope allows you to double a bird's value, but you have to unlock it!
  3. Record any one bird. The bird's dice is just the beginning. Where to place this value or how to modify it for points is the real test!
  4. Check for game end -- does anyone have 4 or 6 objectives completed? If so, the game ends. Count up your score and see who is the ultimate bird photographer! If not, keep going!
  5. Move Birds: the migration pattern on the migration card indicates how each bird will move this round. If 5 birds remain, begin a new round. If too many birds have flown the coop, draw a new migration card, roll and place all the birds, and begin a new round.

Birds

Birds come in 3 sizes (small, medium large) and have 3 native habitats (forest, wetland, meadow). The board is made up of squares comprising the 3 habitats. If you manage to catch a bird in its habitat, it's worth extra points, but only if you've unlocked this ability.

The Score Sheet

The score sheet has 6 rows of objectives. The top 3 have 3 spaces for you to score birds based on their size. The bottom 3 have spaces for you to score birds based on their native habitat. The top 3 unlock tools but the bottom three unlock bonus points as they're completed. Which one will YOU go for??

Solo Play

Venture out on your own and photograph some birds! Your final score determines your skill level.
