Patented in 1870 by Nicholas Joseph Vander Weyde, Blockade (or Naval Chess) is a game of Admirals, Commodores, and Captains trying to prevent their opponent's Admiral from moving. No one is ever captured or eliminated, nor are there are any targets to reach. Just the one challenge: blockade that pesky opposing Admiral.
Originally published in 1955 by Parker Bros. with an unfortunate theme of "Guys" escorting "Gals" to their "Homes," Escort is really an abstract strategy game of two players facing off while trying to be the first to reach their goal, combining elements of games like Checkers and Camelot. For this edition, the cartoon graphics of the original are dropped and the game is described in more palatable naval terms.
