Braid is a classic trick taking game with a celtic twist. As you win tricks you will build a tableau of interwoven strands of color. Connect color strands across several cards to score points and braid your way to victory!
The secret behind Braid's simple-yet-deep design is that points aren't scored for winning tricks. Instead, you have to build a tableau with cards that you draft.
Winning a trick means you draft an extra card and control the direction the cards are passed. This subtly raises the complexity of the choices you make. In some cases, you're better off not taking a trick. And if you do take the trick, you are not only looking at your own tableau, but also thinking about who you want to pass to and which cards you may want to deny them.
And unlike many traditional trick takers, one player will rarely control the whole hand. In every draft, since the player who took the trick gets two cards, someone else will not get one. That player leads the next trick, giving them a better shot at catching up.
Braid is a lovely game to look at, featuring a simple and clean design on the cards. It's designed to move at a good pace: tricks play quickly, drafting happens in short bursts, and hands can be scored simultaneously. It's simple to teach, and takes only a few minutes to learn.
