Welcome to Alpha Centauri IV, the closest habitable planet to the Earth. You have been chosen by Central Command to be a part of the latest survey team to help prepare this alien world for colonization. (Please don't ask about the previous survey teams.)
We have seen to it that your journey will be done in the most luxurious style to make up for the hardships you will face <cough> the hardships you may have to face that is. Really, we have no reason to believe you will be in any danger- Danger is perhaps not the right word for it.
OK, you'll find out soon enough. The last two survey teams sent to Alpha Centauri IV didn't end well. We don't think they did at least. It's hard to say. The only survivors were insane. Their official reports were just childish ramblings. But we at Central Command have every confidence that you will succeed where they failed. Good luck to you.

In Bump in the Night players take on the role of surveyors of what has proven to be a hostile planet. They have information on the ten most common life forms of this planet and kits to build defenses that their superiors are somewhat sure may help them survive. Players take turns playing noises against rival surveying camps. Based on the sounds their team has heard and the information from past missions each team tries to build the defense that will protect them before the alien creature reaches their camp.
