Using the cards in the player's hand, the objective is to collect three nuts (in any order) within your starting quadrant and return back to the nest. The first person to complete this task wins the game.
Each player must start and end each turn with 3 cards in their hand.
The direction arrows on each playing card are relative to where each player is sitting (the “up” direction for one person may be different from person to person).
You can play any number of Hawk or Squirrel cards each turn, but only one Cardinal card.
When a player plays a card, that player immediately draws another one. It is smart to play Hawk and Squirrel cards first, as this gives you the opportunity to have more Cardinal cards to choose from.
Cardinals may move into other quadrants, but may NOT acquire a seed from a different quadrant other than their own (quadrants are defined by different artwork and a slightly thicker white line).
A player must use ALL moves on the card that is played. For example, if a card has the number ‘5’, the player must move the game piece exactly 5 squares. If a player cannot move the exact number of places (due to them being close to an external border), they cannot use that card.
A player can use any direction on the card any number of times. As an example, if this was the card played, a player could potentially move in the following manners:
In order to ‘collect’ a nut, you must land your bird EXACTLY on the nut space. Passing over it does not count. As a reminder, you can only claim a nut within your quadrant.
If there are no nuts left on the map, the Squirrel cards become useless. If you draw a Squirrel card in this board state, simply discard the poor, hungry creature and draw another card.
When the last card is drawn from the deck, shuffle the cards to be used again. Repeat the process as many times as necessary until someone wins the game.
Cardinals: Allows the player to move their OWN bird token in specific directions and a determined number of spaces.
Hawks: Allows the player to move a DIFFERENT player’s bird token in specific directions and a determined number of spaces.
Squirrels: Allows the player to move a DIFFERENT player’s nut token in specific directions and a determined number of spaces.
Each player will begin in one of the center colored squares in the middle of the board. This will be that player's nest. Use the grid lines to navigate your bird to the seed markers, where you will then collect a seed token to bring back to your nest.
