Convo Connect is an easy-to-play game that can be adapted to a variety of needs that pupils with SEN may have. It works a lot like another popular game with "Connect" in the title.
Players take turns to pick a card, answer the question on the card, which in turn earns them a place for their tokens on the board. The winner of the game is the first player to make a straight line with their tokens. How long the line has to be is all up to you!
Pupils with SEN can take away further benefits, especially when provided with guidance and support from their teacher or parent. The benefits are as follows:
Introspection/ self-awareness : As they answer questions about themselves, children will think inwardly, which can develop self-awareness of their behaviour and emotions. This could then be used to teach emotional self-regulation. Coupled with teacher or parental guidance, these questions can also be used as conversational starters to enhance the learning and gaming experience; facilitating the development of their targets.
Focus/ Attention: Via this guidance, players can also be quizzed on their peers' answers in order to motivate them to pay attention and to help develop empathy towards them.
Empathy: As the pupils learn about their peers' likes and dislike, strengths and weaknesses, the setting is provided to help teach about empathy.
The simplistic nature of the game means that the calming setting that you provide for your pupils with SEN can be maintained, while also providing a fun activity that they will keep asking to play.
NOTE: Further questions card expansion decks may become available in the future
