Corsairs of the Outer Reach

Humanity has conquered the stars. Spaceships ply the routes between planets trading resources. As a young spaceport brat, you watched the trader Corsairs offload their cargo and celebrate their success in the spacer bars.

Now, you have finally managed to secure a crippling loan from the Interstellar Banking Corporation to buy your own trader ship. She has been fuelled up and the hyperspace jump nodes are fully charged. It is time to fly into the Outer Reaches and make your fortune as a Corsair, and maybe, one day, pay off that loan.

Gameplay Summary

Corsairs of the Outer Reach is played in turns and rounds. A player's turn consists of 1 move and 1 action, in this order.

Space cards are divided into 1-3 spaces. Players move their ship up to the number of spaces shown in the Drive section of their Ship card. Players can only move to a space connected along one edge with the space they currently occupy. The number of spaces moved each turn can be increased by upgrading a ship's Drive.

Actions must be taken on the space where a player ends their movement. An action may have several parts to complete. Actions include: visiting planets, investigating scans, visiting space stations, using wormholes and paying off a player's mortgage. Players resolve actions by drawing cards from decks, rolling a die, collecting resources to trade, picking up cargo or trading with the Freighter or other players.

Once a player has moved and carried out an action, the turn passes to the next player. Once both players have finished their turns, the Freighter miniature moves 2 spaces toward the nearest planet in a clockwise direction. After the Freighter has moved the round is over.

The game ends when a player has a full Crew and they have paid off the mortgage on their ship. That player is the winner!
