Coming soon from EVOLV Games, DECAY is a card game for 2 or more players where survival means overpowering your opponents by taking on more damage for yourself.
In DECAY, you play the role of an unlucky expat forced from relative security within one of Earth's many satellite-prisons to the ruined planet's surface. In order to survive an environment twisted by nuclear devastation and left uninhabitable for centuries, you will need to adapt. But confronting the many perils of the new Earth will mean putting your life on the line for the sake of acclimation, to say nothing of your very humanity.
During the course of a game, you become more powerful and are able to use abilities such as MUTATIONS and EFFECTS as you collect more TOXIN points. Unfortunately, these points can also spell your doom -- collect ten tokens and you are eliminated from play. FAILURE TO ADAPT is a card which can be used by players who have collected 5 TOXIN points (and 2 IMMUNITY points)...
Players may also collect up to five IMMUNITY points which can give them the ability to play even more powerful cards without the risk of doing themselves harm. In certain instances, IMMUNITY may also be traded for TOXIN tokens on yourself or other players. DUAL HEARTS is a special UNSTABLE MUTATION card which allows you to ignore the IMMUNITY cost of cards you play -- but only if you can keep your TOXIN points at a near-disastrous 8 or above.
You also have the ability to recover beneficial tokens which have little cost but produce game-changing effects. PRUSSIAN BLUE costs nothing to play and can remove 2 TOXIN points if you get too close to the edge.
In DECAY, you play not only to outlast other players, but the game's EVENTS as well. ACID RAIN is an example of a GLOBAL EVENT which affects all players at the same time. An EVENT is overcome by comparing its RESOLVE cost to the number of TOXIN or IMMUNITY points carried by the player(s) affected. In this case, there is none, so all players would pay the penalty of receiving one TOXIN point.
Many EVENTS will affect only one player at a time and some of these require hefty prices and/or consequences. ERODED SANITY removes two IMMUNITY tokens of the player who reveals it and doesn't carry 9 TOXIN tokens.
