The Corporate Rim is full of open space and danger. It’s also filled with glorious cargo and plenty of cold hard credits. In order to get your grubby mitts on those credits, you’ll have to get yourself a ship. Why not pop round to Galagar’s Reclamation Yard? Plenty of parts that can be cobbled together to make a space-worthy craft. Or at least enough of a craft to get some cargo, duck a few space rocks, fight off Raiders, and snag a paycheck in. The galaxy beckons you forward. Can you keep your jalopy of a ship cruising and make some money, or will it just blow apart into more scrap?
The Roll and Write Revolution wants you to go Dice Trucking! We're asking you to grab a few fistfuls of dice and go a little unusual again. Give each player a sheet and 5 dice. Turns will be taken at the same time but everyone rolls their own dice. Throughout the game, you'll alternate between rolling to build, repair, or upgrade your ship and rolling to race across space to pickup cargo, reach 2 checkpoints, and cross the finish line. Of course, the first player to reach each checkpoint earns bonus credits. You'll also face many hazards along the way, but that's what those space stations are for!
You'll begin the game by deciding whether you want to play "real-time" or take measured turns with classic dice management. If you play real-time, every build or upgrade phase will be timed while players roll and draw parts as fast as they can in order to build the best bucket-of-bolts time allows (while keeping in mind positional limitations and future needs). If you play "casual mode", you'll be given a set number of rolls with the ability to pay for rerolls. After your "starter" ship is ready, everyone starts rolling dice equal to the number of their engines in order to plot a path across the galaxy. Stop off at planets to trade crew for cargo. Use shields to deflect asteroid storms or lasers to break up large asteroids. Fight off Space Raiders to save your cargo. Fail at any of these defensive measures and parts start blowing off your ship!
If you need a few more engines for better navigation, more space for cargo, or just want to replace some spent shields, depleted batteries, or lost crew, drop into a space station to throw on some extra parts. Maybe go ahead and reinforce those damaged sections hanging on by a bolt or two while you're at it. And don't worry about flying space junk - worry about becoming space junk!
Below, designer Derik teaches you how to play and continues with a complete solitaire play-through:
