Diminishing Returns

We are Dr. Scott Carey's associates, Lab scientists. The day started with a phone call from the boss.
He had discovered huge insects out in the mountains. We got to his camp as quick as we could.
He was not there. So we began searching for him.
After finding his name badge and a pencil, we became concerned. Then we found a field with a strange green mist.
There were insects that were 10 times their normal size. It was a wonderful discovery.
Then we realized that the insects were growing larger as we watched..
But we were wrong, they weren't growing, we were SHRINKING!
The green mist was making them larger and us smaller! Soon we would be bite size for some critter and I didn't want to be bird poop! We discovered that if we ate something, then the effects were
counteracted for a few minutes.
But we had no food.
There was food at the camp site, but only enough for one person.
I look into the desperate eyes of the others, they realized it as well.
Without a word, we start running and shoving each other.
It's a race back to camp, winner takes all.
The DIMINISHING are RETURNING to camp!
