You love your life as a merchant in a dungeon, selling your wares to all the other dungeon denizens. Whether you’re selling delectably rotten pizza, painfully itchy clothing, or a wonderfully cursed weapon, life as a merchant is good.
But beware those pesky adventurers. Sometimes they attack, destroying your stuff! (Why would they do that? You don’t go to their home and destroy stuff. The only logical conclusion is that adventurers are evil.)
Put together Orders for your customers and look out for adventurers. The player who earns the most Gold wins!
In your turn, you will draw a card and try to put together an Order (a set of 3 or more cards). If you still have that Order at the beginning of your next turn—if it hasn’t been destroyed by adventurers or by another player—you can sell it.
Or you can hold on to the Order and try to make it even more valuable by adding cards to it or completing other Orders. Selling larger Orders and selling multiple Orders at once earn extra Gold. But the longer you hold on to an Order, the more likely it is that it will get destroyed. Sell the Order now or push your luck and, hopefully, make more Gold later? The choice is yours, Dungeon Merchant.
As with all Art-Free Games, Dungeon Merchant comes with a number of Optional Rules you can use to modify how you play the game. But Dungeon Merchant has more Optional Rules than most of our games. You can combine different Optional Rules to make a thousand ways to play.
Which one will be your favorite?
We believe that artwork is great, and makes a game pretty. But ultimately whether you love a game or hate it will be based on how fun it is to play.
Games are about sitting down with friends and family--and possibly your brother, who always makes the best queso for game night--and having fun.
And so Art-Free Games was born. Our goal is to make enjoyable games that prove you don't need art to have fun.
In the end, it's all about the game.
