Description

In 1781, French occultist Antoine Court de Gebelin argued that the tarot was of ancient Egyptian origin. The first full tarot deck design to be based on ancient Egyptian imagery appeared in the book Practical Astrology by Comte C. de Saint-Germain, published in 1901. The trumps were copied from a book published in 1896; Saint-Germain addded minor arcana.

This is a facsimile of that deck, made from scans of Practical Astrology, with numbers and titles added. The accompanying little white book includes the complete text of Saint-Germain's descriptions and interpretations of the cards, along with a brief history of Egyptian tarot and some information about Saint-Germain.

The Saint-Germain tarot has radically different titles for the cards and numbers the "Fool" (here called "the Crocodile") 22 rather than the more familiar 0 (or un-numbered), but the structure of the deck, and much of the imagery on the trumps, is otherwise similar to traditional tarots.
