In Empires of Mars you take on the role of a Martian kingdom. Through the careful placement of terrain tiles, you will build cities, claim territory, and monopolize resources. Your aim is simple: grow your people into the largest, most dominant force on Mars!
Empires of Mars is a game for 2-4 players. During each turn you will place a Terrain Tile, taking care to network canals to water sources. Cities are built on circles formed at the intersection of four tiles, based on the colors in the circle. You add your Citizens to the tiles your Cities are built on while removing your opponent's Citizens. The tiles you clain may contain Growth Points which can lead to further expansion. Tiles also may contain Victory Points and Resources. To win, you must earn the most Victory Points by:
- Having more Cities and Citizens on the board than other players,
- Controlling more Terrain Tiles worth Victory Points than other players, and/or
- Monopolizing Resources.
The game consists of the following playing pieces:
- 72 Terrain Tiles
- 80 Citizen pieces (20 of each color)
- 32 City pieces (8 of each color)
- 4 Growth Tracks/Reference Cards (double-sided)
- 4 Growth Track Markers (1 of each color)
