A fragile peace is left in the wake of a thousands year old war. The Aquatarians thrive as a political and economic powerhouse, having mastered the sea. The Stratospherians control the skies with their militaristic lifestyle and massive flying boats. The volatile Fyrians, wield the power of fire and hold an age-old animosity and jealousy toward the dominate Aquatarians; a splinter group is even rumored to control the terrorist organization called The Ring of Fire. The Metallon, an industrious folk with the power to mold metal, have a stranglehold on trade and weapon crafting. They hide themselves away in the well-protected Temple, an industrial-religious compound fronted by the First Nautical Church. And the Terrane, a reclusive sect with power over the element of earth, is the smallest of the factions. They have remained distant, searching vainly for dry land somewhere in the vast sea. Rumors say they are in league with the mysterious and prophetic Mystics and that their earth powers caused the epic deluge that flooded the earth.
Welcome to Waeteria…
Inspired by the award-winning Fate roleplaying game, Fate of Waeteria is a cooperative game of adventure for 2 to 4 players. You and your friends play characters that live in the world of Waeteria seeking adventure and fame. The five major empires of the world are all vying for power and have sought you out to help them. The game consists of rounds of play where the players help each other overcome issues to complete missions. The goal of each session of play will be to complete one mission, which takes approximately one hour.
An official campaign tracker sheet can be downloaded below or at the official game website.
Fate of Waeteria was a finalist in a board game challenge here at the game crafter. Our final review put us at the bottom of the list and the judge's notes noted they could not get past the first obstacle and that the game was essentially not playable. We'd like to address this issue here to put your mind at rest that Fate of Waeteria is playable.
The Judge and her players had trouble finding some information in the manual (which is totally understandable, and why we want to clear this up). The main comment seemed to be that the game was too difficult because there was no way to influence the dice rolls. The game actually has 2 different ways to influence dice rolls: Power Crystals allow you to add +2 to a roll or reroll the dice in some circumstances. Advantage crystals grant you a +2 bonus to your rolls in a location. Refer to the rulebook to see how you can gain crystals of each type.
We made this game to be difficult on purpose, and it's intended audience needs to be sure they are taking full advantage character abilities and choosing your first player each turn wisely based on your current obstacle.
If you are having trouble succeeding at rolls, be sure you are Creating Advantages and spending crystals to help you succeed at your rolls.
8/23/2021 Upgraded dice to custom printed dice because the indented dice supply is running out. The price has gone up, but the dice quality has also gone up.
6/2/2017 Upgraded the plastic dice and stickers to laser-cut wooden dice. Red dice is now the dark wood, the white dice are light wood.
1/25/2017 We reworked the layout and shape of the Character and Issue cards
