Foolish Fish's Folk and Fairy Tale Cards of Fate and Fortune were created with three main types of magic practitioner in mind (you may find yourself among one or several of these categories):
Those just getting started on their path, possibly still unacquainted with the esoteric symbols of the traditional Tarot, wishing to quickly and easily experience the guidance of divination thanks to evocative sentences rather than obscure symbols.
More advanced practitioners who recognise the universal, underlying folk wisdom embedded in traditional fairy tales.
Those who know the undeniable beauty and magic of dusty old books.
Using the process of "bibliomancy", I asked my many tomes of traditional (yes, uncut!) Folk and Fairy tales to bring forth unassuming yet powerful sentences that might help the seeker in times of doubt, that might guide the traveller at the crossroads unsure which path to take, and that might teach the would-be adept in the sacred art of life.
One by one, the sentences were collected, all insightful, all incisive, and each containing entire worlds of wisdom for the guidance of the discerning reader able to take a hint.
When at last I had reached 49 quotations, an intuitive feeling came over me: the deck was finished. "How could this be?" I asked, having planned to make the deck 80 cards at least! So I consulted the deck itself. Having numbered the quotations 1 to 49 in my notes, I drew a random number... Twenty-four!
Here was the associated quotation:
"Now we're boys so fine and neat, Why cobble more for others' feet?" - The Elves and Shoemaker.
There was no doubt, the deck was complete!
I danced a jig on the table and didn't forget to thank the elves!
I hope that this deck brings you the same joy, reverence, and sense of timeless wonder it brings me every time I've used it since.
My name is Denis Poisson, you may know me from my Foolish Fish YouTube channel, and my book "Hidden Paths published by Black Letter Press, and you may know how much I love pretty books, accessible esoteric practices, and divination systems that just work... like this one!
