For Our Family is a card-based storytelling game. We create a brave space to explore our own questions–and questions of other children of immigrants– of identity and belonging in a fictional, safe context. It’s a conversational game that requires no dice, nor facilitator that focuses on answering prompts and exploring those answers collectively.
For Our Family’s primary gameplay consists of everyone around a table taking turns drawing prompt cards from the communal deck and reading and answering the questions on those prompt cards aloud. While answering those questions, everyone is building a family, a culture, and a world in which their characters exist in a collaborative story.
Half-heart in the city, half-heart here at home.
Two tongues split between our lips, not one to call our own.
We've bourne our birthplace's trials, all adversity and scorn.
Despite all our sacrifice, our elders expect more.
Our elders are now dying, leaving us their heirs alone.
Only we can inherit theirs, our legacy, our throne.
The elders' era has ended, do you start anew?
