The Four Horsemen (Pestilence, Famine, War, and Death) constantly bicker about who does the most to further the cause of their boss, Chaos. Chaos likes the arguments because, let’s face it, arguments are chaotic. The Horsemen are always having contests to decide who is the best. It gives them something to do while waiting for the Apocalypse to come around. (They also argue about whether “Horsemen” should be “Horsepersons” since two of them are female, but we’ll leave the gender correctness argument to them.)
GAME PLAY:
On your turn, you will roll the dice and move around the board. You must travel to the outskirts of the board to pick up a treasure from one of the four bases, then carry that treasure back to the middle to drop it off. Get treasures from each of the four bases to win.
If that was all there was to it, it'd be easy (and boring). But the horsemen are not known for their good sportsmanship. They have plenty of ways to mess with each other.
When you land on an opponent's piece you can impose a penalty, such as knocking them off their horse (they lose their next move) or making them drop the treasure they are carrying.
And you also have a hand of cards which you can use to mess with your opponents from anywhere on the board.
So it's a stab-your-buddy-in-the-back board game.
In the Underworld.
On horses.
GAME CONTENTS:
WHAT IS ART-FREE GAMES?
We believe that artwork is great, and makes a game pretty. But ultimately whether you love a game or hate it will be based on how fun it is to play.
Games are about sitting down with friends and family--and possibly your little niece, who dresses her dolls in combat fatigues and insists you call them "Action Figures"--and having fun.
And so Art-Free Games was born. Our goal is to make enjoyable games that prove you don't need art to have fun.
In the end, it's all about the game.
