Description
After a long and arduous trip, you have arrived at the American river to seek your fortune. You must decide whether to mine for gold or make your way serving the mining community. Use a combination of chance and strategy to strike it rich during the California Gold Rush. How will you fare?
The children will experience a first person account of Gold Rush events unfolding as they play. They will play one of 8 important figures from history:
James Marshall, whom reported the finding of gold. Sarah Winnemucca, an activist and author from the Northern Paiute tribe. Lotta Crabtree, one of the wealthiest entertainers in the 19th century. Joaquin Murrietta Carillo, a miner turned legendary bandit. Steven Spencer Hill, a successful miner who came as a slave bondsman and bought his own freedom. Mary Ellen Pleasant, the "Mother of Civil Rights" in California, who helped spread the underground railroad to California. Yee Ah Tye, one of the first foreign born pioneers to do hydraulic mining and a successful store owner. Mamie Tape, plaintiff in the Tape vs. Hurley court case which set the stage for Brown vs. Board of Education.
