Welcome to the delightful world of Gunfi: Mushroom Garden! In this thrilling card game, you'll explore a mystical realm filled with vibrant mushrooms, action cards, garden decorations, and protective elements. Test your strategic skills, quick thinking, and luck as you compete to become the ultimate mushroom gardener. Let's dive into the rules and mechanics of this enchanting game:
Shrooms are the heart and soul of the game. Your garden's fate depends on them! If you run out of mushrooms in your garden, you're out of the game, and you'll have to discard your cards.
Action cards are powerful cards that you can use during your turn to trigger immediate effects. After using an action card, place it in the temporary discard pile.
Garden decorations are placed in your garden alongside mushrooms. They serve as both beautification and a protective measure. You may sacrifice a Garden decoration instead of a mushroom when needed. If discarded, place it in the temporary discard pile.
Pots and Umbrellas offer extra protection for your precious mushrooms. You can place multiple pots on a mushroom, but only one umbrella per mushroom. To add a protection card, use a Play during your turn.
You have the option to spend your Pull (part of your turn) swapping a card from your hand with one in the marketplace. When the draw pile runs out, shuffle the discard pile to form a new draw pile.
There are two discard piles in the game. The temporary discard pile includes action cards and sacrificed garden decorations, which will be recycled into a new draw pile. On the other hand, the permanent discard pile holds destroyed mushrooms and protections.
To set up the game, place the starter mushrooms aside. Distribute 4 cards from the draw pile to each player, keeping them secret. Leave space in front of each player to form their garden. Place three cards face up in the middle of the table to create the marketplace. The remaining cards form the draw pile. Leave two spaces open for the temporary and permanent discard piles. Players look through their starter hands and immediately plant mushroom cards in their gardens. If a player doesn't receive a mushroom in their starting hand, they must pull a starter mushroom from the box and plant it. The player with the most mystical aura goes first.
A player's turn consists of a Pull and a Play. During the Pull, a player may either swap a card from their hand with a card in the market or draw a card from the draw pile. For the Play, a player may use 0 or 1 of their cards. Plays include using an action card, placing a protection card, or installing a garden decoration. If a player pulls a mushroom card, it immediately gets planted in the garden without counting as the player's Play.
The game ends when there's only one player left standing, or if a player collects all 5 garden decoration pieces and places them in their garden. That player is declared the winner!
Some action cards will have either a cards symbol or a shoom symbol. The symbol determines who chooses the affected mushroom when using the card. If it's the cards symbol, the player of the action card picks the mushroom in another player's garden. If it's the shroom symbol, the card player chooses a player, and that player selects the mushroom to be affected.
Currently, mushroom types (indicated by colored borders) are mostly cosmetic. However, there is one card that affects mushroom typing.
