Gutenberg's Apprentice

Players compete to pick relevant words and gather the most letters for them from the type case in order to be Gutenberg’s top apprentice.

Required components - game card, a die and a dry erase marker, paper and pencil for scoring.

Full Rules:

Gameplay - The youngest player goes first, placing the die on any category. Each round a player will roll the die and advance it around the board that many spaces, ending at the new category for the round. Starting with that player and going clockwise, each player has 10 seconds to say a word in that category. Players also pass the board around so every player can see the available letters on their turn.

After each player goes (or time runs out), starting with the first player, each player then crosses off the letters that spell their word and total their score. If while spelling a letter is not available, that player’s turn is done and their score is totaled as it is.

When all players have gone, a new round begins and the player to the left becomes the new starting player. The game is over once no players score a point for a whole round.

Scoring - When spelling a word, each letter gathered is worth the number of points of the round you are in. (ie. In round 1 each letter is worth 1 point. In round 3, each letter is worth 3 points)

Word Rules - - Articles (a, an, the) may not be used. - In the case of a two word answer, only the first word is spelled - Words may not be reused in a single game for any reason

Challenging Words - Before a player crosses off letters for their word, other players may challenge whether it should count. Both players make their case, and then all players vote, with ties allowing the word to be played.

Category Elimination - Each time a category is used it is crossed off and skipped over for the remainder of the game. If all the categories are crossed off, the game ends.
