A simple meal planning system, made especially for busy people.
Hi, I'm Emily. I'm a game designer and a liveaboard sailor.
I live in a small space, often have limited access to groceries, and don't love spending time in the kitchen.
This KitchInventory (kitchen inventory) system is the result of several years of failed attempts to overcome my busy schedule, adult ADHD, and a lack of interest in cooking, and find ways to simplify my meal planning. It's a 1-2-3 meal-planning tool that helps me keep my food inventory, meal list, and grocery list all in one place, and ultimately, eat better food.
Using this system, I now typically spend about 10 minutes a week planning potential meals, I take 1 good trip to the grocery store per week, and I cook most meals in under 15 minutes. I also hardly ever forget about leftovers or produce anymore, which saves money and reduces the need to clean out a dirty fridge.
I hope this simple-to-use tool that can be helpful for singles, couples, or families who struggle to make decent meals at home.
This KitchInventory tool includes:
Write down what's already in your fridge and your pantry, especially things that will go bad if you don't eat them soon.
Using the ingredients you listed, brainstorm possible meals. For example, if you have eggs and bread, it would be logical to add french toast to the breakfast list.
As you plan, if you write down a recipe that requires an ingredient you don't have, add it to your Grocery List. This kit also includes a paper pad of grocery lists, so you can easily transfer from the dry-erase board to a travel-size list, separated by grocery store department.
After you've completed these three things and gone shopping, meal planning will be much easier:
