All Hail Caesar!

The mighty general Gaius Julius Caesar has came back triumphantly from Gaul and has declared ten days of games as celebration of his great victory! He has called upon you, the Lanista to find gladiators to fight for the entertainment of all of Rome. You must put together the best trained fighters and put on the best show for our conquering hero. Succeed and you will be handsomely rewarded for making these games exciting, fail and put on a bad show, and you will be poor in the gutter where you belong.

Overview

Lanista is a gladiator drafting card game for teams of 2, 4 or 6 players. Each player takes on the role of a Lanista, a gladiator owner and trainer. You are tasked with fulfilling requests from Julius Caesar for gladiator fights. Each round players choose gladiators from several cards to buy and put into their hands. Each round a request card is drawn and players attempt to match the correct type of gladiator and number of gladiators found on the request card. Once players choose their gladiators both teams make a deck of combat cards according to the skill level of the cards each team chooses. Gladiators may get injured during combat if they lose a bout, and may not be used for round. Watch out for deathmatch cards though, you could lose your gladiators for good! Players then receive prize money from each fight, with larger payout if you are able to match the gladiators, win the match, or both. After all request cards are used, each team adds up total worth of their gladiators and their accumulated money and the richest team wins!
