As you wander through the forest during a hike, you make an unexpected discovery, a centuries old library hidden amidst the trees. As you step inside, your gaze is immediately drawn to a book resting on the wooden floor, with just two cryptic words on the pages. Although their meaning does not make sense to you, your curiosity drives you to continue exploring.
Venturing deeper into the library's depths, where an intriguing puzzle beckons. In a secluded corner, a desk holds a lockbox with three letter cubes neatly slotted in. However, this lockbox possesses seven slots, leaving you pondering its purpose.
As you contemplate this riddle, your eyes are drawn to another mystery on the opposite end of the library, a mysterious vault with three keyholes. Suddenly, it becomes clear to you, the missing pieces of this puzzle lie scattered throughout the library. You must embark on a quest to discover the cryptic words and to search for the letter cubes, which, when placed within the lockbox, will yield the keys necessary to unlock the vault.
However, an additional challenge arises as you notice a series of six locked rooms, each promising its own secrets. Could these rooms conceal vital clues essential for unlocking the vault?
With other explorers now entering the library, time is of the essence. You must race against them, to collect the letter cubes, decode the lockbox, and uncover the secrets concealed within the vault before your fellow adventurers claim the elusive treasure that awaits.
The aim in Library of Locks is to be the player with the most Victory Points, or Fame, at the game’s end. Victory Points are earned through the strategic construction of words, encompassing both Key Quest Words and Lock Quest Words, utilizing Letter Dice acquired during gameplay. The game ends when a single player successfully obtains all three Keys and uses them to unlock the vault.
Players must strategically assess the available letters on both the Game Board and their Player Boards. Their primary goal is to swiftly assemble one of their Key Quest Words, securing a Key Token. Subsequently, they should aim to tackle and successfully complete a Lock Quest Word to accrue additional Victory Points. It's important to note that solely focusing on the completion of Key Quest Words may not ensure victory, as a sufficient Victory Point total is required to win. If a player finds themselves in the lead in terms of Victory Points, it becomes advantageous to complete their Key Quest Words, potentially ending the game before their opponents can catch up. Best of luck to all players!
The game blends word-building with strategic gameplay, creating a unique combination of elements.
Players need to carefully plan their moves, manage their Letter Dice, and make strategic decisions about when to complete quests to maximize Victory Points by incorporating a worker placement mechanic, adding depth and complexity to each turn.
