Ludi (literally meaning “The Games”) were the hugely popular public games that took place in Ancient Roman amphitheatres. Part of the entertainment at the games involved fights to the death between gladiators.
In this game you will take on the role of a trader and promoter of gladiators. Your aim is buy the right fighters, win the right prizes, and impress the senators who frequent the games in order to win political favour.
Each round consists of three phases:
1) Setup Phase - Determine how much money can be won at each of this round's fights, and whether or not a senator can be won.
2) Drawing & Bidding Phase - Gladiator teams (three dice) are drawn from the bag, and players bid on these (as an auction), hoping to buy the best team to win at the games.
3) Fighting Phase - Let the games begin! Each player sends their gladiators to fight, and if luck is on their side, they will win money and/or political influence.
