Immerse yourself in the fateful story of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” through “Macbeth the Board Game”! This thrilling, symbolic game takes players through the journeys experienced by the characters in this famous tragedy. But watch out, because not everything is as it appears!
Though this game is named after Macbeth, he is the only character not physically represented. Instead, players will influence and be influenced by Macbeth through playing as either Lady Macbeth, Banquo, Macduff, or Malcolm. With the three witches as the fate-deciding dice, players must compete along their character’s path and in three, pivotal, storyline events. Using the manipulative “Macbeth Cards,” their character’s “Character Cards,” and their own good fortune or self-determination, one player will prove their character the most influential and make their own statement about fate versus freewill, the power of love and fear, and the many other themes found in the original story of “Macbeth”.
Game play consists of three collection phases known as “Paths” and three card game phases known as “Events”. Paths are where players must use the dice to land on spaces that will earn them the cards used in the Events. The card game played during Events requires players to create certain combinations of cards for points with specialty cards giving other bonuses. Winners of the Events will collect “Fate Tokens” and the player with the most Fate Tokens by the end of the last Event is the winner. Certain cards include quotes from Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” and the rules of this game are inspired by some of the literary themes this tragedy touches on. However, no prior knowledge of “Macbeth” is needed to play this game.
Some assembly, including sticker placement on Fate Tokens and Game Pieces, required.
