Magpie

Magpie is a highly interactive roll and write game. Magpie uses area majority for scoring as well as group goals that are hidden. Players will have to watch what their opponent's are up to all game long as the goals are revealed at the end of the game. Your goal affects all of the other players as well as you, theirs also affects them and you. Do you have the clever skills of the Magpie to see through their deception?

In Magpie, players will all be playing on the same sheet. Players should position themselves so that each player, up to 4, has their symbol and potential resources in front of them.

Each round, players will roll 2 dice and use them to either gain a resource from the matching area as their die value OR they may instead mark their territory by filling in their symbol on an empty space in the area matching their die value.

Players will also have to remember that each player has received 2 goal cards, then chosen one of those for end of the game scoring. All players will use each card for end game scoring.

In Magpie you must watch what your opponents are doing, are they collecting certain goods toward their hidden goal card? Or is it a bluff as a player may exchange 2 of a resource for another resource? Better still, as you can take spaces in an area with your symbol for territory majority, you may want to put your symbol on a space with a resource your opponent has been collecting. Do they recoil in horror? Do they shrug it off? In Magpie, watching your opponents is a whole separate meta game.

Clever is the Magpie who can gain territory and also score big across all of the goal cards.
