This deck uses the traditional Latin suits of Clubs, Coins, Swords, and Cups but is designed to appeal to a wider audience than traditional Latin decks. The long suits are coloured black while the round suits are red in order to show the familiarity with the International Standard deck. The deck is also the same size as the International Standard deck of 54 cards (4 suits of 13 and 2 jokers) rather than the traditional Latin deck of 40 cards. This way you can play all traditional Italian and Spanish games as well as those which use the full deck such as rummy, hearts, spades and many more!
Each suit corresponds to one of the four estates of medieval life: the peasantry (clubs), the nobility (swords), the clergy (cups), and the burghers (coins). As a result, the face cards reflect this to show a wide variety of medieval dress and life. All face cards and jokers are based on real manuscript illustrations from between the 12th and 15th centuries. Sleek lines and rich colours give a modern touch to these medieval figures while still maintaining their authenticity.
