As a music teacher, it can be difficult to keep children interested and on task while teaching music theory. It is often taught through lecture and repetitive workbook exercises, leading to boredom, frustration, and ultimately to premature termination of musical lessons. However, theory is a necessary component of lessons that guide students to musical independence. The mission of Nurtured Notes is to provide music teachers with games and materials that will engage students during lessons to increase their understanding of musical theory in a fun, non-repetitive, enjoyable manner. The games are interactive and intended to captivate the interests of children of all ages and levels. By adding these games and activities to lessons as a supplement to method books, Nurtured Notes hopes to improve lesson quality and ultimately duration.
Note Race is designed to enforce basic concepts of music theory including keyboard recognition and music notation. There are three variations of Note Race which allow the game to be played differently during lessons, in a classroom, or at home. Each variation can be adapted to accommodate age, experience level, number of students, and available time.
