Oddball is a game for up to 10 players, played over a series of rounds, where players must avoid elimination by choosing correct answers and avoiding the eponymous Oddball.
In each round of Oddball, one player assumes the role of the ‘hider’ and must secretly place Oddball in one of the card envelopes. (In the first round, the hider is whoever can do the best Oddball face.) The hider then looks at the question card on the top of the deck, states the category aloud to everyone (e.g. ‘Towns in Greenland’). Whilst the players are discussing the category with one another, the hider will draw the symbols from the envelopes onto the notepad. For each envelope the hider has put a ‘safe’ card in, they will write a correct answer beside that envelope’s symbol. However, for the envelope containing Oddball, the hider must write beside their symbol an answer which is entirely made up and definitely not correct.
Once this is done, the other players may now look at the hider’s list. Each player in turn, starting from the left of the hider, now picks an envelope which they believe contains a ‘safe’ card, based on the answers the hider has given them. Once everyone has picked, one envelope will be left, which is given to the hider. Everyone now opens their envelopes simultaneously, and whoever has Oddball is out of the game, and picks the next hider. The next hider takes a new question card, and a new round begins. The last player standing is the winner!
