Unleash Your Inner Coder with Path of the Python: A Fantastical Board Game for Players Aged 12 and Up!

Step into a world of intense action and fantastical creatures with Path of the Python, the latest board game sensation designed to challenge and entertain players while honing their coding skills. Whether you're a budding programmer or just love a good strategy game, Path of the Python offers an exhilarating experience for 2 to 8 players.

Overview:

Path of the Python is a 2 to 8 player board game where players navigate through a snake-like path of defined spaces, each representing a legal place for players to move their avatars. Players use game cards to either advance themselves or hinder their opponents by completing coding challenges. The first player to reach the end of the path wins.

Features:

  1. Includes 40 visually appealing cards printed with quality materials.

  2. Designed by a licensed and CTE-credentialed computer science teacher.

  3. No computer required to play. Players can write programs on paper.

  4. Not strictly limited to Python programming - many challenges (not all of them) can be completed in any computer language.

  5. This Starter set includes a robust board and storage box, each printed with an original design crafted just for this version.

Setup and Rules

❖ Place the game board on a flat surface.

❖ Each player chooses a game piece and places it at the starting space.

❖ Shuffle the cards and place them face down in a stack beside the board.

❖ Each player starts with 5 cards, and has a maximum hand size of 7.

❖ Determine the starting player (e.g., youngest player or by rolling a die).

Gameplay

➢ Players take turns clockwise and draw 1 card per turn. Each player can only draw and play 1 card from their hand during a turn unless the instructions on a card say otherwise. Some cards can be played during an opponents’ turn. Cards are discarded into a pile after being played.

➢ Card Task: On a player's turn, they draw a card and write code to meet the requirement instructions on the card, or follow any other instructions on the card.

➢ Card Reward: If the player successfully completes the action or challenge, they advance the number of spaces indicated on the card. ➢ Card Consequence:If the player fails to complete the action or challenge, the game piece remains in the current space or sometimes moves backward.

➢ Card Roll Cost: Each card has a “roll cost” between 0-6. Players can choose to roll a die and if the result matches the cards’ roll cost, they claim the card reward. If the result does not match they must take the card consequence. A roll cost of 0 means players cannot roll a die and must follow the instructions of the card.

Winning the Game:

★ The first player to reach the last space on the snake without going over wins the game. The winner must occupy the last space closest to the snakes’ head following the result of a card's instructions. If a card's instructions put both players in the last space at the same time, the winner is the person who played the final card.
