The Queen has grown tired of the same old pies. Potatoes, onions, blackbirds…all of these ingredients have been declared ho-hum by Her Majesty.

To inspire her kitchen staff, her Royal Highness has invited culinary experts from lands near and far to submit pies for an international feast. She has invited you—the royal court members with the most discerning palates—to taste each exotic pie and assess its flavors. The taster with the most robust palate will become the Queen's royal culinary advisor—a very prestigious position indeed!

Pigeon Pie is a game of finding words no one else can. Each course (round), you will be served a Pie with 6 slices (letters). Using these letters, you will compete against the other player(s) to find unique words, and score points for each one. You will also score bonuses when you find words that use certain letters, or that meet other conditions. When the feast is over, the royal taster with the most points will be crowned the winner.

  1. Assemble the Banquet Table by connecting the 6 pieces.
  2. Choose player colors. Take the Emblem, Ring and Flag of your color. Place your Flag on the "0" space of the Banquet Table.
  3. Separate the Pies by difficulty (based on the number of vents shown on each non-lettered side). Shuffle each stack and place it on a plate of the Banquet Table.
  4. Decide how many courses will be in this feast. Give each player a pencil and score sheet(s).
  5. Reveal 1 Queen's Request tile.
  6. Choose 1 player to be the first active player.

The active player selects the difficulty level and draws 1 Pie.

They flip it and says "Tasters of the Court, I present, a - - - - - - Pie!"

Take turns claiming slices.

Write the word, and your letter, on your score sheet.

Write up to 10 words, using only the letters available in the Pie.

Each letter may only be used once per word, unless you claimed that letter (if so, you can use it any number of times).

Compare words and score points.

Read your words aloud, and cross out any words that were said by other players. Then tally points for food/drink bonuses and letter bonuses, and put asterisks next to Queen's Requests.

Move player banners along the score track.

All players score their points.

The player who scored the most individual words gains a bonus equal to the vents in the Pie.

Then return the Pie to the game box, draw a new Queen's Request tile and pass the active player token to the next player.

While we have not yet prepared an overview video for this game, the following is a casual, uncut unboxing video, with a closeup of many of the components and some description of gameplay.

Pigeon Pie was designed with replayability in mind:

  • Tons of Scenarios. With 72 unique Pie cards, 12 different Queen's Requests, and competition for slices each game, Pigeon Pie, offers great replayability. Even if you've seen a particular Pie before, you'll always have different challenges and limitations.
  • Relaxed, simultanous play. The game has no timer, so tasters can take their time "digesting" the available letters and finding their words.
  • Flexible difficulty level. Add or remove the Queen's Request tiles and/or player RIngs from the game for a simpler game play experience.
  • Big and Small Wins. This game is not about scoring big words. It's about scoring original words, and words that meet other challenges, which makes it accessible to those who don't have extraordinary vocabularies.
  • Never run out of score sheets! You can download printable score sheets for free at www.SmallFurryGames.com.
