What's the Game?

In Pirate Pursuit – The Spanish Treasure Fleet, one player is the sneaky pirate who moves secretly about the game board, aiming to plunder the Spanish treasure fleet as it visits fortified ports along the Spanish Main before returning home to Seville.

The other players are pirate hunters who must use their knowledge of pirate lore to reveal the pirate’s location and drive them away from the treasure fleet – or better yet, to capture that blasted bilge rat of a thieving buccaneer!

The questions the pirate hunters will face are organized into three levels of difficulty:

How Does It Work?

The players roll the die to move about the game board – only the pirate is nowhere to be seen! The pirate tracks their movements in their Captain’s Log, and is only required to reveal their position when another player correctly answers a question about pirate lore!

Anytime a pirate hunter rolls a “6” for their movement, the pirate asks them a question from the deck of Pirate Lore Cards. If the correct answer is given, the pirate must place their Ship Token on the board. With this new knowledge, the pirate hunters now strategize on how best to protect the treasure fleet, or better yet, how to catch the pirate before they can sneak away again!

As pirate hunters collect Pirate Lore Cards, they gain certain benefits that aid them in their pursuit. Then as their collection grows, they are also able to impose restrictions on the pirate. So that pirate better hurry and seize the treasure quick!

Up the Challenge

Once you are familiar with the basics of the game and your knowledge of pirate lore is growing, you may increase the strategic challenge by employing any of the included optional rules:

• Shorten the sailing range of each ship by cutting their rations
• Read pirate hunters a Pirate Lore Card when they roll of a 5 OR 6
• Let the pirate take back a Pirate Lore Card if they roll high enough

• 6 Ship Tokens – Classic chunky wooden tokens for sailing the sea, hunting treasure or hunting the pirate.
• 28 Provision Tokens – These wooden cubes track how long until you must visit a friendly port to resupply.
• 72 Pirate Lore Cards – These are the questions the pirate hunters must answer to reveal the pirate’s location.
• 1 Six-Fold Game Board – A large full-colour 27” x 18” map of the Caribbean.
• 1 Captain's Log – This is where the pirate tracks their secret movements.
• 1 Rules Booklet – A full-colour set of instructions, including optional rules to expand the fun.
• 1 Six-Sided Die – Players roll this black & white die to determine their movement each turn.
• 1 Pencil – For the pirate to make notes in their Captain’s Log.
