Out-preach the outlandish creed of your competitor and amass a great cult of believers
Ridiculous zealots. Derpy followers. Subversive preaching. Amass your own cultish following by out-preaching your opponent in this strategic card game for two that takes less than 15 minutes to play.
Preachify has simple, easy to learn rules without sacrificing depth of gameplay. In short:
- You each secretly choose a card, then reveal the chosen cards at the same time.
- After doing this three times, whoever has the higher preach power wins the round. The losing cards become "converted" to the winning player's creed.
- Whoever has the most believer points at the end of the game wins!
Misleading your opponent, the use of special cards, and card counting are all encouraged. Just be aware that although you may think you are leading your opponent on, they may be misleading you...
Basic Play
The Goal
- The goal of the game is to convert as many of the opponent's cards to your beliefs as possible.
- This is done by assembling the team with the highest preach power each round.
- The losing team is "converted" and placed in the believer pile of the player who won the round.
- When all cards have been played, the player who has the most believer points in their believer pile wins the game.
Setup
- The setup of the game begins by each player choosing one of the decks.
- Shuffle each deck, and place in front of each player to form a draw pile.
- Draw six cards.
Play Order
- The game is played in rounds.
- You choose a card and play it face down on the table.
- Once you place a card face down on the table, you may draw a card.
- Once you draw a card, you may no longer change the card you placed face down.
- Once both players have drawn a card, turn both face down cards on the table to be face up.
- Do this a total of three times. When the cards are turned face up for the third time, the round is finished.
- Add together the preach power of the cards you played. If it is higher than your opponent's total preach power, you win the round--place your cards in your discard pile and your opponent's cards in your believer pile.
- A new round is then started, and the process is repeated, until all cards have been played.
- On the last two rounds, there will be no more draw pile. Once you place a card face down, it cannot be changed. Turn the cards face up as soon as both players have placed their card.
Special Rules
Prophet-Kings and Skeptics
- If you play a Prophet-King during a round, you win that round.
- If you play a Skeptic during a round, you lose that round.
- If one player plays a Prophet-King, and the other a Skeptic, the player who played the Skeptic wins the round.
- A player cannot play a Prophet-King and a Skeptic in the same round.
- If, on the last round, you have to play both a Prophet-King and a Skeptic, you lose the round, but the Skeptic goes in your believer pile.
- If both players play a Prophet-King, ignore the Prophet-Kings and add up the preach power of the other two cards of that round to determine the winner of the round, in the usual manner.
- If both players play a Skeptic, ignore the Skeptics and add up the preach power of the other two cards of that round to determine the winner of the round, in the usual manner.
- If, somehow, both players play a Prophet-King and a Skeptic on the last round, the other (non-Prophet-King, non-Skeptic) card is used to determine the winner of the round.
Ties
- If a round is tied, set the cards aside. The winner of the next round converts their opponents cards from both rounds to their believer pile. They discard their own cards from both rounds, in the usual manner
- If the next round is also a tie, set those cards aside too. These get added to the pile from the previous round. The winner of the next round converts their opponents cards from all three rounds to their believer pile. Etc., etc. (So on and so forth, until a player manages to win a round.)
- If the last round ends in a tie, those cards are all discarded, including any that are set aside from previous rounds.
Faithful Citizens
- Each Faithful Citizen card has a special ability
- If you win a round using a Faithful Citizen, their ability goes into effect on the next round.
- Faithful Citizen abilities have priority over any of these rules.
