Pýka is a variant of the Camelot/Chivalry strategy board game. The base game is designed for two players.
The game is played on a square board of 80 squares, with 64 squares (eight-by-eight) and 16 overlapping hexagons (four-by-four). Each player starts with sixteen Men and four Guards placed on the board according to the provided rules. The combination of hexagonal and square tiles allow for interesting piece movement and an alternate location for the player's castle positions, on a much smaller board.
In advanced gameplay of Pýka, four boards can be placed together to form one larger board. Standard chess pieces then take thier positions along the hexagonal tiles. while the men line the first four ranks. Guards are held in reserve for a special move where four Men surrounding a blank hexagonal tile can be elevated to that of a single Guard. New movements for the Chess pieces also apply. Rules are currently being developed.
Since it is the intent for this to be an expandable game to include standard chess pieces, the name for the Knight typically used in a Camelot/Chivalry game has been redesignated as a Guard to avoid confusion between the pieces.
