In order to play Quantum Coins you will need the game card as well as 2 Pennies(P), 2 Quarters(Q), 4 Nickels(N) and 6 Dimes(D).
Setup - Each player gets 1P, 1Q, 2N, 3D. One player turns all their coins to heads, and the other to tails. The youngest player has starting initiative, and places their P (ship) on a starting spot, and the other player takes the other. The game is ready to begin.
Each round is broken down into 3 parts:
Initiative - each player takes one of each available coin into their hand. Secretly place a coin or no coin into your other hand. Both players open their hands, and the player with the larger coin receives initiative. If there is a tie, initiative stays as it was previously. Each player discards that coin from their hand for the rest of that round.
Movement - the player with initiative moves first, followed by the other player. Players may use as many available coins as movement templates to get their P to other parts of the board. Any coins used as templates are discarded for the round. At least 1 coin must be used.
Attack/Defense - the player with initiative attacks first, followed by the other player. Players may use as many available coins to attack and defend as they wish. Take the coins into your cupped hands and shake well, then reveal your flat hand. Any heads coins are “hits” and are added to any region bonuses for your total attack value. The defending player then follows the same process, with heads coins counting as “blocks”, plus any region bonuses. If there are more hits than blocks, the defending player must remove the difference in D from the game. If they have no more D to remove, the attacking player wins the game. Otherwise it is the other player’s turn to attack.
After the round, players reclaim all coins except for D that were lost during attack. Then a new round begins.
Movement Rules - When using coins as movement templates, first place a finger on the P. Position as many coins touching one another until you have them in the desired position, then hold the last coin. Finally, pick up your P and place it in the new position touching the last coin. If your final position is touching your opponents P, they must discard 1 coin for the round.
Bonus regions are ranked as I, II, or III. P may gain the region bonus by overlapping any part of a I region. P must be fully inside II & III regions to claim the bonus. The region coin cost must be paid to use the bonus.
In order to enter a lower ranked region, a P must first move completely beyond the Gold line for a turn or cross the start line to the other side of the board. Players may only enter each bonus region a maximum of 1 time before clearing the Gold line. Partially covering a region counts as entering that region, even if the bonus cannot be claimed.
