Description
Mankind has ventured to the stars. We have settled many star systems and discovered many secrets of the universe. With a network of warp gate relays allowing quick travel between planets, human civilization became a limitless utopia. Communication between worlds was instant. An era of peace and technology showed no possibility of ending. Until the aliens arrived. Then it ended rather quickly.
We didn't have proper defenses, but that didn't even matter because they didn't use any conventional attacks. Their hordes appeared from nowhere, simultaneously striking almost all our systems. Planets fell under their control and the few people that remained became their mindless servants. We sent our fleets to provide aid, but on arrival they fell under the alien's spell as well. We're not even sure how they achieved total victory in such a short time.
Those of us from systems that were somehow unaffected quickly closed ourselves off from the the warp gate network of the fallen systems. We found that they used our own network to observe us and plan our end - and we should be safe for decades now that they can't access our warp gate relays. Well, if only we were so lucky.
One alien parasite got through, and has fully infested one system, declaring itself the Grand Overlord of Humanity. It said this openly and blatantly, calling us his newly-spawned Underlings. Apparently he didn't know that we managed to develop a resistance to his control. So now, he just wants us dead. He has influence in each system, growing by the day. We have but one hope to preserve humanity: destroy the Overlord. Except, he's lightyears away. Thousands, perhaps. Thus begins the...
