Description

Retro Racer is an exciting dice-driven, card-based racing game for 1 player.

It is inspired by the old video game racers of the past: Pole Position, RC Pro Am, Rad Racer, F-Zero, and more.

Race your car on 11 different courses, encountering random obstacles and trying to beat the Pace Car. But be careful, don’t blow up! Speed is dangerous and the faster you go, the more perilous the drive! Dice determine the obstacles you face, and how well you control the race car! Roll different dice as you go faster.

Retro Racer does not use a board; it is totally card-based and dice-powered. It is a small-footprint game that gives the full racing experience. Your player dashboard, course layout, and track segments are all cards. Your car and obstacles are small chits.

Each course is composed of modular track cards. You will reveal new segments of track as you speed off your current track card.

It's Retro Racer!

For use with the Home Tabletop Entertainment System.

Gameplay

Intro Video

Shift Gears

Upshift or downshift on your player dashboard.

Steer the Wheel

Steer to the left or right. The maximum gear for each notch on the steering wheel is shown.

Roll the Speed Die

Roll the Speed Die color based on which gear you are in. Higher gears have a higher chance of losing control and swerving to the side.

Race Ahead

Drive forward the number of spaces based on the gear you are in. Steer sideways per the results of your die, steering, and curve.
In this example: The Curve is a -1 curve, so you would take the -1 from it. The steering wheel is at +1, and the die rolled a +1. Add all those values together: Curve -1, Steer +1, Die of +1 = Result of +1, so move 1 space to the right, and 2 spaces forward.

Avoid Obstacles

Roll dice to randomly generate Obstacles. The location and type of obstacles vary. Dodge Potholes, Puddles, and, of course, Bombs! Try to hit Boosts and Shields.

Take Damage

Explode

When you take too much damage it is GAME OVER!

Scrolling Race Track

As you race over the track, leaving old tracks behind you, place new track cards ahead, populating them with obstacles. Then, remove the old track and slide the new down. Like a TV screen, the course scrolls in front of you (and does not hog the table.)

Notes

  • This game contains a premium upgrade called UV Coating that makes the printed components more durable.
  • This game contains laser cut components. Laser cut items will have a slight amount of soot around the edges, which can easily be wiped off; and will have a campfire smell for about a week after you open them.
