Rifts of Reality

Rifts of Reality is a cooperative game where you and your companions race to create six rifts before your dream stabilizes. You must connect cards by matching their borders across six types: Organic, Mechanical, Spiritual, Legendary, Magical, and Alien.

As you play cards, you must collect "residuals" which represent stability in this dream world. These residuals create an ever-expanding border that threatens to encompass your entire play area! If you cannot create all six rifts before your dream becomes too stable, you will be trapped and have lost all memory of reality.

The game plays like a logic puzzle, where the position, orientation, and timing of all the cards you play will determine your success or failure. You will need to plan where your rifts will be created and what kinds of cards you will need to get there without blocking yourself in or otherwise creating a sticky situation.

Each player will be dealt one "rift tile" which gives you special abilities for one type. This will help you play cards that others in your party cannot. If your ability is of particular use, speak up! Your companions may just pass you the cards you need.

Story

Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Relax and forget about time.

You are now dreaming with your full range of senses. You notice everything in this dream world. It’s colorful. It’s warm. It’s harmonious. While it remains eerily familiar, nothing quite makes sense here. In your dream, you are transported to another place.

As this at first fragile world unfolds, you may feel yourself enticed by the comfort, beauty, and wonder it provides. But still, you ache to awaken.

Make no mistake, this is no ordinary dream. It doesn’t want you to get out. Deep in sleep, you share consciousness with your companions and have all but lost the ability to tell dream from reality. Stranger still, the people, places, and things are not known by their familiar names, but you recognize them like old friends. It can be hard to tell which way is up. To return to reality, you must be ready for the upside-down and side-ways to the entirely backwards.

You must create “Rifts” in the dream before it stabilizes. As the dream expands, you may feel that every step is both forwards and backward at the same time… Prepare for the unexpected. You must wake up.
